April 29th Pylon Race Results
Quote from daniel on April 30, 2023, 8:25 pmSaturday's pylon race turned out to be some very entertaining value for $5. Ed and Steve did an exceptional job putting the event together and kudos to Dennis for manning the grill. Also let's not forget Ken's awesome job fabricating the pylons. It goes with out saying, those pylons are definitely going see more use here in the weeks to come and beyond. There were two classes racing - Slow Sticks and the 50" or less Wingspan/3S.
Thanks to Dave Campbell for bring 3/4s of the slow stick racers. With Dave Hoffman bringing the other 4th stik, there were 4 racers involved. Steve Schooler and myself rounded out the field. The race was broken into 3 heats and I was truly amazed how 4 slow stiks lined up at the start and all got in the air on the word GO. Until a few mins prior to the race I personally had never flown one. Once I realized the rudder was were the ailerons are supposed to be and that there werent no ailerons, i managed to figure it out and somehow ended up winning. Not really sure how the race went for everyone else as I was pretty focused on just keeping the thing flying straight but from the ongoing commentary and banter I have figure it was pretty entertaining.
The Final Results for the Slo-Stik race were:
1 Daniel Bopeley
2 David Hoffman
3 tie - Steve Schooler/ Dave Campbell
There were a few more entries for the 50"/3s race. Needless to say Caleb dominated the competition flying a T-28 (eflite?), I did manage to win one heat and secured a second place with my durafly t-28 lash-up, Mike Lawler flew to a close 3rd by flying clean consistent lines with a slightly slower hi-wing trainer type (Hobbico?), and Ken H came in 4th with his T-28.
1 Caleb
2 Daniel Bopeley
3 Mike Lawler
4 Ken Huttema
This was a great event. Everyone who competed put their skills to the test and up their game. Looking forward to the next installment of pylon racing. As more interest builds and our skills become more dialed in this is only going to get better. Hope to see you all at the next race.
